Koforidua Technical University wishes to invite suitable applicants and the general public for admission into the 2023/2024 academic year. The Write Up below includes General Entry Requirements, How to Apply, the Deadline, and other relevant INFO needed for successful admission into the Koforidua Technical University, KTU.
The procedure is as follows:
Applicants can only apply online via Koforidua Technical University’s online application portal. The procedure is as follows:
- Ghanaian Applicants for B’Tech, HND and Non-HND programmes are to make a payment of One Hundred and Fifty Ghana Cedis (GH¢150.00) for the Koforidua Technical University On-line Serial Numbers (OSN) E-Vouchers at any Republic Bank, Fidelity Bank, Zenith Bank, Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) and Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) branches throughout the country.
- Foreign Applicants can purchase E-Vouchers online with Zenith Bank Global pay platform using any VISA Card enabled for online purchase at the cost of fifty US Dollars ($50.00).

- Applicants can also purchase admission voucher with Short Code by dialling *966*3*540# (All networks) and following the procedure below:
- Enter the Name or Alias of the Institution (eg. Koforidua Technical University or KTU).
- Select the specific voucher to purchase. (The name and the amount are displayed).
- Enter MoMo PIN to Authorize payment.
- The voucher will be sent via SMS when the voucher is received; you may proceed to the next instruction.
4. Access the Online forms by visiting the online application portal after payment.

General Entry Requirements for all Programmes
Entry Requirements for BTech Programmes
- Holders of Higher National Diploma in a specified field obtained from accredited/recognized institutions with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division
- Holders of Higher National Diploma in a particular field transferring from similar programmes run at accredited/recognized institutions with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division should have a one (1) year working experience.
- Holders of University Diploma certificates from accredited Universities and Professional Diploma certificates are eligible to apply
- Other qualifications that are equivalent to Higher National Diploma, Construction Technicians Certificate III & II), (CTC III (New)), CTC II (Old), Mechanical Engineering Technician III (MET III), Electrical Engineering Technician III (EET III), Advance Diploma among others).
GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR 4-YEAR B.TECH PROGRAMMES
i) SSSCE Applicants
Passes (A-D) in three (3) core subjects namely English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and must possess three (3) passes in relevant elective subjects. The cumulative aggregate must be 24 or better.
ii) WASSCE Applicants
Credit passes (A1-C6) in three core subjects namely English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and must possess three (3) credit passes (A1-C6) in three relevant elective subjects. The cumulative aggregate must be 36 or better.
(iii) GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level Applicants
Applicants must possess six (6) GCE ‘O’ Level passes including English Language, Mathematics and General Science plus three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes in the relevant courses.
iv) Applicants from Technical Institutions
Applicants from Technical Institutes must possess credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus credit passes in relevant elective courses.
Applicants from Technical Institutes with the requisite elective passes without passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science may be admitted to a two (2) month intensive bridging (pre-degree) programme before formal admission to their programmes of choice after passing a selection examination.
v) Applicants with Technician Certificate
Applicants with passes in Motor Vehicle Technicians II (MVT II) may also be considered for admission and will be enrolled at Level 200.
Applicants with passes in Motor Vehicle Technicians III (MVT III) may also be considered for admission and will be enrolled at Level 300.
vi) HND Applicants
- HND graduates with the requisite specialization will enroll at level 300.
- HND graduates with requisite specialization will enroll at level 200 (Mechatronics)
- Applicants with University Diploma in the relevant subjects will enroll at level 300.
- Ordinary Technical Diploma (OTD) will enroll at level 200.
vii) Technician Applicants
At least Part II and III Technicians Certificate Holders in EET or Radio & Television or
Telecommunication Technician plus English, Mathematics and Science or
EET II or Radio & Television Technician II or
Telecommunication Technician II with passes in English, Mathematics & Science at the SSSCE/WASSCE level.
viii) Mature Applicants
- Applicants must be twenty-five (25) years old at the time of application and must show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which should be five (5) years old at the time of application. If the birth certificate is less than five (5) years, applicant must add an affidavit. The applicant in addition must add any valid National ID card.
- Must pass a written test in English Language, Mathematics and General Knowledge to be conducted by Koforidua Technical University.
- Applicants within the field of Engineering must have obtained a pass at MET I, MVT I, EET I, CTC I
- GCE ‘O’ Level, SSSCE/WASSSCE Applicants must have obtained passes in English Language, Mathematics, and any two subjects in a related field of specialization.
- Must have at least one-year of working experience in a related field (A letter from the employer is required as evidence of working experience).
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY (TOP-UP) PROGRAMME
- Holders of Higher National Diploma in a specified field obtained from accredited/recognized institutions
- Holders of Higher National Diploma in a particular field transferring from similar programmes run at accredited/recognized institutions should have one (1) year of working experience.
- Holders of University Diploma certificates from accredited Universities and Professional Diploma certificates are eligible to apply
- Other qualifications that are equivalent to Higher National Diploma, Construction Technicians Certificate III & II), (CTC III (New)), CTC II (Old), Mechanical Engineering Technician III (MET III), Electrical Engineering Technician III (EET III), Motor Vehicle Technician III (EET III), Advance Diploma among others).
GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR HND PROGRAMMES
SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS
- SSSCE Candidates: Passes (A-D) in three (3) core subjects namely English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies; and must possess a minimum of D in any three (3) of the passes relevant to the area of specialization.
- WASSCE Candidates: Passes (A1-D7) in three (3) core subjects namely English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies; and must possess a minimum of C6 in any three (3) of the passes relevant to the area of specialization.
- Alternatively, SSSCE/WASSCE Applicants with passes (A-D)/(A1-C6) in three core subjects namely English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies; and a minimum of D/C6 in any two (2) of the passes relevant to the area of specialization are eligible to apply.
GBCE/ ‘O’/A’LEVEL/ABCE APPLICANTS
Five (5) GBCE /GCE‘O’-Level credit passes (including English Language and Mathematics) plus at least two (2) GCE ‘A’ level/ABCE passes excluding General Paper.
APPLICANTS FROM TECHNICAL SCHOOLS (CERTIFICATE II APPLICANTS)
Applicants must have passes in three (3) subjects including English Language and Mathematics and Integrated Science plus three (3) relevant elective subjects/trade courses.
DBS APPLICANTS
Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English and Mathematics plus at least three (3) passes in relevant DBS subjects.
TEACHER’S CERTIFICATE.
Applicant must have a Three-Year Post-Secondary Certificate or Four Year Certificate ‘A’ with a minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience, plus three (3) GCE O-Level or SSSCE/WASSCE passes in relevant elective subjects.
MATURE APPLICANTS
- Applicants must be twenty-five (25) years old at the time of application and must show proof of age with a birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which should be five (5) years old at the time of application. If the birth certificate is less than five (5) years, applicant must add an affidavit. The applicant in addition must add any valid National ID card.
- Must pass a written test in English Language, Mathematics and General Knowledge to be conducted by Koforidua Technical University.
- Mature Applicants must note the following deadlines for submission of online application forms:
- 1st Batch Entrance Examination – June 30, 2023.
- 2nd Batch Entrance Examination – September 30, 2023
- 3rd Batch Entrance Examination – November 18, 2023
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS NON TERTIARY PROGRAMMES

DBS–(Accounting/Management/Marketing/Purchasing & Supply/ Entrepreneurship/ Secretarial Options)
- Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes (including English and Mathematics) Or
- Four (4) GCE O-Level passes (including English Language and Mathematics) Or
- Four (4) GBCE (RSA II) passes (including English Language & Business Mathematics) Or
- NACVET/NVTI Typist/ 2 or 3 passes in Stenographer Certificate (for Secretarial option)

DBS–(Statistics and Information Technology Options)
- Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes (including English, Mathematics plus Elective Mathematics or Physics) Or
- Four (4) GCE O-Level passes (including English Language and Mathematics, Additional Mathematics or Physics)

Certificate II in Fashion Design and Textiles:-2-Years
- Passes in SSSCE/WASSCE/GBCE/’O’ Level subjects.
- National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) Fashion Certificate Grade I or Grade II or equivalent.

Advanced Fashion Design and Textiles:-2-Year
- Holders of City and Guilds Certificate in Fashion & Designing (Dressmaking and Tailoring) Or
- Intermediate Dressmaking/Fashion Certificate plus at least one (1) year relevant practical experience Or
- Four (4) passes in SSSCE/WASSCE subjects including English Language, Mathematics and any other elective subjects plus basic knowledge and skills in Dressmaking Or
- Four (4) passes in GCE ‘O’ Level including English Language Mathematics plus knowledge in Dressmaking.

Construction Technician Certificate (CTC) Part I
- Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English, Mathematics and Technical Drawing.
- Technical Construction option Subjects: Craft (B/C, C/J, P/D, and Plumbing) and Advanced (B/C, C/J, P/D, and Plumbing.)
- Passes in General Course in Construction (GCC)

Mechanical Engineering Technician (MET) Part I
- Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English, Mathematics and Science
- Technical Option Subjects : Engineering Crafts, Intermediate General Engineering (GE), MECP
- Technical Option Subjects: MVM, Intermediate General Engineering (GE)

Electrical Engineering Technician (EET) Part I
- Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English, Mathematics and Science and any two of the following – Applied Electricity/Electronics, Physics, Mathematics.

Catering Certificate II – 2 years

- Passes in relevant SSSCE/WASSCE/GBCE/ GCE O-Level subjects.
- NVTI Grade II or JHS Certificate with working experience.

Certificate in Draughtmanship
- JHS Certificate with working experience
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS ACCESS COURSE /PRE-HND PROGRAMME
- Technical/Vocational Applicants who have deficiencies in their Core Courses
- Applicants must have a minimum of Craft Course. Or
- Applicants must have MET I, MVT I and EET I or its equivalent. Or
- Applicants should have a minimum qualification of Intermediate or Craft Certificate or its equivalent from a recognized examinations body. With regards to Hospitality Management, applicants must have Cookery 812/2.
CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME IN SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES – 3 MONTHS (SATURDAYS ONLY)
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
(i) Applicants with a minimum of Junior High School Certificate
(ii) Mature Applicants must be at least twenty-five (25) years old and must have relevant working experience.
