Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology

KNUST is one of the universities which offer Engineering course in Ghana. We know that KNUST is one of the famous universities in Ghana from the services it offers to its students. Before you go in for any course, there are some requirements you must meet before. Let us look at the requirements KNUST needs to study Engineering.

WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS

Credit Passes in THREE (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Credit passes in THREE (3) of the following Elective Subjects: Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. Applicants in this category who do not have Chemistry must obtain Grade B3 in Integrated Science.

A’ LEVEL APPLICANTS
FIVE (5) credits at O’ Level including English and Mathematics, plus,

Passes at A’ Level in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Physics with an ‘O’ Level credit in Chemistry.

Passes at A’ Level in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry

MATURE APPLICANTS
Applicants must be 25 years at the time of submitting the Application.

Five (5) credits at the O’ Level including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

WASSCE/SSSCE credits in THREE (3) Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science), plus credits in THREE (3) Elective Subjects (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry). Applicants must have at least THREE (3) years of working experience.

University of Ghana

Another university is the University of Ghana, Legon. Let us look at the requirements to study engineering there.

  1. Credits (A1 – C6 in WASSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science (for Science-related programmes).
  2. Three elective subjects in science for applicants applying to science or agriculture-related disciplines.  Science applicants ought to possess a Grade C6 in WASSCE/D in SSSCE in Social Studies/ life skills.

Central University College Ghana

These are the entry requirements to study an engineering course at the Central University College.

WASSCE and SSSCE: The minimum requirements for admission into the programme are passes in three (3) core subjects at the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE)

The West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science, AND passes in three (3) elective subjects at SSSCE/WASSCE level, namely, Elective Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

The aggregate score of the 6 subjects should not exceed 24 in the SSSCE or 36 in the WASSCE. All passes should be grade D (SSSCE) or better or C6 (WASSCE) or better.

KAAF University

Candidates applying to the programme must meet the following entry requirements:

WASSCE / SSSCE Candidates

Relevant credit passes shall include an Arts subject, plus three(3) relevant elective subjects

•Chemistry •Physics •Elective Mathematics

GCE ‘A’ LEVEL Holders

The three (3) A level subjects are Physics, Chemistry, and Elective Mathematics.

Accra Institute of Technology

Senior Secondary/High School Certificate Examination (SS/HSCE) or West African Senior Secondary School Certificate (WASSCE) or equivalent With an aggregate score of 24 or better in six subjects including passes in Three Core Subjects (including Core English, and Core Mathematics) plus Three Electives.

For Engineering or Computer Science Programs, the Three electives should include Elective Mathematics and Elective Science (Physics, plus Chemistry, or Biology).

University of Cape Coast

The Minimum Admission Requirement into the programme in the University of Cape Coast for WASSCE applicants is aggregate 36. For SSSCE applicants, the minimum requirement is aggregate 24. i. Candidates must have credit passes in six (6) subjects with an overall aggregate of 36/24 at the WASSCE / SSSCE level respectively. ii. Three of the six subjects must be core subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies, and the other three must be relevant electives which include Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. iii. For purposes of admission, a credit pass in: (a). WASSCE means A1 – C6 (b). SSSCE means A – D

University of Energy and Natural Resources

Entry by means of SSSCE/WASSCE (Entry at Level 100)

WASSCE Applicants

To be admitted to any degree programme in the School of Engineering, applicants must possess grades (A1-C6) in 3 core subjects (i.e. English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science) and 3 elective subjects relevant to the choice of programme.
For admission into diploma programmes in the School of Engineering, applicants must possess grades A1-D7 in 3 core subjects namely English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, and 3 elective subjects relevant to the choice of programme.

SSSCE Applicants

To be admitted to any degree programme in the School of Engineering, applicants must possess grades (A-D) in 3 core subjects, namely English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, and 3 elective subjects relevant to the choice of programme.
For admission into diploma programmes in the School of Engineering, applicants must possess grades (A–E) in 3 core subjects, namely English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, and 3 electives relevant to the choice of programme.

Ghana Technology University College

1. WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS
Credits in three (3) SSSCE /WASSCE Core Subjects: (Mathematics, English Language and Integrated Science) plus three (3) credits in the following Elective Subjects: Elective Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry/Applied Electricity/Electronics/Technical Drawing with an aggregate score of 24 or 36 respectively.

2. ‘A’ LEVEL APPLICANTS
Applicants should be Science students with Five (5) Credits at ‘O’ Level including Mathematics and English Language. They should also have (two) 2 passes at ‘A’ Level in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

3. MATURE APPLICANTS
Applicants must be 25 years at the time of submitting the application. Must have either Five credits at the “O” Level including Mathematics, English Language, Physics and Chemistry OR WASSCE/SSSCE credits in three (3) Core Subjects (Mathematics, English Language and Integrated Science), plus credits in three (3) Elective Subjects (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry).

Regional Maritime University

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE/NECO holders: Applicants must have six [6] passes (A1-D7/A-D) in all subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and a minimum of C6 in three (3) passes in relevant subjects (e.g. Elective Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Applied Electricity, Geography etc).
  2. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Holders: Applicant must have credits in at least five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language and Mathematics plus at least two (2) Advanced Level passes in relevant subjects.  (e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Metal Work, Applied Electricity etc).

Regent University College of Science & Technology

WASSCE/SSSCE

Credit passes (at least C6) in Three Core Subjects (including English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies) and three elective subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Elective Mathematics) with an aggregate score of 36 or better in the WASSCE.

Passes (at least D) in three core subjects including English, Mathematics, and Science, and three elective subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Elective Mathematics) , with an aggregate score of 24 or better in the SSSCE.

All Nations University College

  1. SSSCE Candidates: Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core SSSCE Candidates: Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects or better.
  2. WASSCE Candidates: Credit passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects or better

This applies to all Engineering Programmes;

  1. ·Applicants for Engineering must have credit in Physics and Chemistry.
  2. ·For Biomedical Engineering, Biology may be accepted instead of Chemistry.
  3. ·Applicants with credit in Elective Mathematics will be preferred.
  4. ·Applicants who do not have Elective Mathematics may apply to attend the University College’s Pre-University programme.
