University of Cape Coast (UCC)

The University was established out of a dire need for highly qualified and skilled manpower in education.

Its original mandate was therefore to train graduate professional teachers for Ghana’s second cycle institutions and the Ministry of Education in order to meet the manpower needs of the country’s accelerated education programme at the time.

Today, with the expansion of some of its Faculties/Schools and the diversification of programmes, the University has the capacity to meet the manpower needs of other ministries and industries in the country, besides that of the Ministry of Education.

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) in Ghana has been ranked as the best University globally for research influence. UCC was ranked the number one university in Ghana and West Africa. UCC is also among the top five universities in Africa.

The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: Teaching (the learning environment); Research (volume, income, and reputation); Citations (research influence); International outlook (staff, students, and research); and Industry income (knowledge transfer).

University of Education, Winneba (UEW)

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) was established in September 1992 as a University College under PNDC Law 322.

On 14th May 2004 the University of Education Act, Act 672 was enacted to upgrade the status of the University College of Education of Winneba to the status of a full University.

The University College of Education of Winneba brought together seven diploma awarding colleges located in different towns under one umbrella institution.

These Colleges were the Advanced Teacher Training College, the Specialist Training College, and the National Academy of Music, all at Winneba.

The School of Ghana Languages, Ajumako; the College of Special Education, Akwapim-Mampong; the Advanced Technical Training College, Kumasi; and the St. Andrews Agricultural Training College, Mampong-Ashanti.

The aims of UEW:

  1. To provide higher education and foster a systematic advancement of the science and the art of teacher education:
  2.  To train tutors for the colleges of education and other tertiary institutions:
  3. To provide teachers with professional competence for teaching in pre-tertiary institutions such as preschool, basic, senior secondary school, and nonformal education institutions: and
  4. To foster links between the schools and the community in order to ensure the holistic training of teachers.

From the above overview of these two universities, it is clear that the aim of both institutions is to provide highly qualified and skilled individuals in education.

This means students can choose to go to any of the two universities for their educational courses.

In our opinion, when it comes to certificate value, most institutions “value UCC certificate” as compared to other universities’ certs.

So if you are looking to choose one of these institutions to study a bachelor of education course, then we can tell you that, any of these two schools are good to go.

All you have to do is to make sure you meet the minimum requirement for the education course you wish to study.

Disclaimer! the above analysis is based on our own opinion and can not be solely used as a final verdict on the two institutions.

Make sure to also do more personal research before you conclude on which of the universities to go to for the bachelor of education course in Ghana.
