The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the 2025 promotion exercise for teachers and officers across the country. This exercise, released on 11th September 2025, gives qualified teaching staff the opportunity to move up the professional ladder and enjoy better career opportunities.

Available GES Promotion Ranks 2025

Applications are invited for the following ranks:

Deputy Director
Assistant Director I
Assistant Director II
Principal Superintendent

These positions are open to teachers who meet the stated requirements and have served their respective roles consistently.

GES Promotion 2025 Requirements

Below are the qualifications needed for each rank:

1. Deputy Director

Must have been promoted to Assistant Director I on or before 2021.
Must have served continuously at post since then (excluding approved leave).

2. Assistant Director I

Must have been promoted to Assistant Director II on or before 2021.
Must have remained at post consistently since then (excluding approved leave).

3. Assistant Director II

Must have been promoted to Principal Superintendent on or before 2021.
Must have served continuously at post since then (excluding approved leave).

4. Principal Superintendent

Must have been promoted to Senior Superintendent I on or before 2021.
Must have served continuously at post since then (excluding approved leave).
Teachers with an approved undergraduate degree will automatically be placed on this rank.

Officers/Teachers with Master’s or PhD Degrees

For the avoidance of doubt, teachers who wish to rely on Master’s/Doctorate (PhD) degrees to join the promotion interviews out of turn should take note:

The Master’s/PhD programme must be on the approved GES course of study.
The certificate should not have been obtained before the previous promotion.
Applicants who wish to use their Master’s/PhD for Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, or Deputy Director promotion must have obtained their certificate in or before 2023.

Upload the following documents:
Passport-size photograph (jpeg, jpg, or png format)
Last promotion/appointment/upgrading letter
Highest academic certificate used for applying
All documents uploaded must be in PDF format (except the passport picture) and should be clear and legible.
