The US State 2024 Diversity Visa Program (DV-2024), otherwise known as the Green Card Lottery application has started on October 4th, 2023, and is scheduled to end on, November 9th, 2023.

The State Department urges qualified individuals not to wait until the last week to submit their entry as heavy demand may result in website delays.

The department also stated some qualification requirements for the applicants to follow. These requirements if followed as stated by the prospective applicants can increase their chances of winning the 2023 DV lottery.

Below are some of the things that can help to increase your chance of being selected as this year’s applicant.

Be a Native of an Eligible Country

The Diversity Visa program is intended to increase the diversity of the immigration population in the US. As such, natives of countries with large immigration rates (over 50,000 immigrants) to the US in the last five years are ineligible to participate. For DV-2024, the following countries are ineligible: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.

Make Sure your Picture has adhered to the basic picture requirements for the DV Lottery 2024.

Before beginning, the entry process, verify that your picture and pictures for any dependents fully comply with DV entry photo requirements included in the DV-2024 instructions. Your case will be disqualified if you submit a non-compliant photo. See the sample of acceptable photos here.

Have at least a High school Education or its Equivalent

(successful completion of a 12-year course of formal elementary and secondary education), or two years of qualifying work experience.

Make sure you have no criminal records

Entrants who win the lottery will be subject to background checks and interviews at the US embassy or consulates assigned to their home country, so the State Department advises that those participating in the program must be admissible to the United States. Individuals with criminal records and who win the lottery may not be approved for immigrant visas.
