All these are some of the most frequently asked questions by Waec candidates. Being on this page, then we assume, you are also looking for answers to one of the above questions. If that is so, then in this article we are going to help clarify things for you in a simple and easy-to-follow language.

The waec marking scheme is the same for almost all the subjects, with the exception of a few subjects. Per the waec grading system, a Candidate who wishes to have A1 in a subject is expected to score a percentage of 75% to 100%.

Likewise, a candidate who obtains a scored percentage mark of 70% to 74% is graded B2 in the said subject in question. You can read more on the new waec grading system here. You can also check to see how to Calculate your WASSCE Grades.

How is WAEC Percentage Calculated?

The waec percentage scored in a subject is calculated using the raw marks obtained in the subject divided by the total number of marks allocated and multiplied by 100.

Assuming a candidate was able to socred say 70 marks out of 100 total marks in elective mathematics paper 2 (theory), the same candidate also scored 34 out of 40 objective questions.

What the examiners will do is take the Marks to obtain (70) and divide them by the total allocated marks (100). This is done to ascertain your score in theory.

After ascertaining your score in theory, then that score will be added to the marks obtained in objectives in other to get the final score in all.

Example

Marks Obtain in Theory = 70
Total Marks allocated for theory questions = 100
Total Marks Allocated for objectives = 40
Marks Obtain in Objective = 34

Total Marks obtain By Candidate = 70 + 34
Total Allocated Marks (Both Objective & Theory) = 100 + 40

=> 104/140 X 100 = 74.3%

Going with the grading system, this candidate has obtained A1 in Elective maths.
