Most of the Universities in Ghana offer BSc in Nursing but their requirements might differ. Now let us list the Universities which offer BSc Nursing and take each to discuss their admission requirement.

Generally, persons between the ages of 18-35 are needed for the BSc Nursing course in most of the universities. A maximum grade of 36 or better from holders of WASCCE and SSSCE with A1-C6 in three core subjects (Mathematics, English, and Integrated Science) and A1-C6 in any other elective subjects in your area of study.

University Of Ghana Requirement for BSc Nursing
Degree Requirements
Two categories of applicants are considered to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programme:
- West Africa Senior High School Certificate or it’s equivalent.
- Diploma in Nursing Holders (enter at Level 200)
WASSCE Applicants
- General University requirements are applied
- School requirements
In addition, to the above, applicants must have:
- A minimum of C6/D in Core courses
- A minimum of C6/D in each of the elective subjects preferably science electives.
Diploma Holders
Two categories of diploma holders will be considered for admission:
- Holders of Diploma in Nursing Education/Administration from a recognized University should have a minimum of B+ average or second class upper.
- Holders of a Diploma in nursing from a recognized institution of nursing with a minimum of CGPA of 3.25.
Kaaf University College Requirement for BSc Nursing
i. WASSCE: Six (6) credit Passes (A1 – C6) including English, Mathematics and Integrated Science and any three (3) relevant Elective Subjects in General Science, General Arts or Home Economics with an overall aggregate of 36 or better.
ii. SSSCE: Six (6) credit passes (A – D) including English, Mathematics and Science and any three (3) relevant elective subjects in General Science, General Arts or Home Economics with an overall aggregate of 24 or better.
iii. Mature candidates must be at least 25 years old at the time of application and must have relevant working experience and background. Applicants must pass an entrance examination.
iv. Holders of Diploma in Nursing from recognized institutions plus the licensure examination of the Nurses and Midwifes’ Council will be admitted to the third year. Candidates must also meet the minimum requirement for admission to tertiary institutions.
v. State Registered Nurses will be admitted to the second year.
Garden City University Requirement for BSc Nursing
Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE): with an aggregate score of twenty-four (24) or better in six (6) subjects comprising: A – D in all three (3) core subjects i.e. English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and at least passes i.e. (A – D) in three (3) elective subjects in the options of Science, General Arts, Agricultural Science, and Home Economics.
West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE): with an aggregate score of 36 or better in six (6) subjects comprising: A1 – C6 in all three (3) core subjects i.e. English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science and at least passes in three (3) elective subjects in the options of Science, General Arts, Agricultural Science, and Home Economics.
Foreign Students Requirements: foreign students must have their result slips translated into English. In addition, applicants must be able to speak and write in English.
Other Entry Qualifications for Admissions: Candidates with the Diploma In Registered Nursing (RN) from recognized institutions may apply.
Such candidates may transfer credits from their previous course of studies, with appropriate recommendations and references. Applicants with State Registered Nurses’ (SRN) qualification from recognized health institutions and with a minimum of 3 years of practice.
Nursing and Midwifery College Korle Bu Requirement for BSc Nursing
18 – 35 years 18 – 35 years
Overall Aggregate A cutoff aggregate score of Thirty Six (36) or better in six subjects, comprising A cutoff aggregate score of Twenty Four (24) or better in six subjects, comprising 3 Core and 3 Electives.
Core Subjects and Minimum Grades Credit (A1-C6) in three core subjects i.e English, Mathematics and Integrated Science. Credits (A-D) in three Core Subjects i.e English, Mathematics and Integrated Science.
Elective Subjects and Minimum Grades Credits (A1-C6) in AT LEAST passes (A1-C6) in three Elective subjects. Acceptable subjects are indicated in the table below Credit (A-D) in three Electives Subjects.
Pentecost University Requirement for BSc Nursing
Applicant with the following qualification may apply for the Bachelor of Sciences Nursing Programme
- A. SSSCE & WASSSCE APPLICANTS
- Holders of SSSCE Grade A – D
- Holders of WASSSCE Grade A1 – C6
Candidates must have THREE CORE
- English
- Mathematics
- Integrated Science
THREE ELECTIVES (at least a credit in any of the following):
PURE SCIENCE: chemistry, Biology, Physics / Elective Mathematics
AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE: General agriculture, Physics and Chemistry.
HOME ECONOMICS: Food and Nutrition, Biology, Economics, Management in Living, General Knowledge in Art.
GENERAL ART
- Economics
- History
- Geography
- French
- English literature
- Any Ghanaian Language
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS REQUIREMENT
Applicants with credits or better grades from the under listed fields are granted Admission
- General Arts
- Pure Science
- Agric Science
- Food and Nutrition
Presbyterian University Requirement for BSc Nursing
Applicants must have aggregate 36 or better in six subjects (3 core and 3 electives). The core subjects and minimum grades are: grade C6 or better in Mathematics, English Language and Integrated science. The elective subjects should be selected from any of the following subject areas: Science, General Arts, General Agric with Chemistry, Home Economics with Food and Nutrition.
Diploma Applicants
Diploma in Nursing should be obtained from a recognised University, with a final grade point average of 3.25 or better, in addition to the basic qualification at WASSCE / O’ Level. Such candidates who must also be RGNs may be admitted to the Second Year of the programme after a selection interview.
Valley View University Requirement for BSc Nursing
- Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE): Compulsory Subjects – Grade D or better in three (3) core subjects, English, Mathematics and Integrated Science and Elective Subjects – Grade D or better in three (3) elective subjects. The electives could be any of the following: Science or General Arts (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and elective Mathematics), and Home Economics and Agricultural Science.
- West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE): Compulsory Subjects – Grade C6 or better in three (3) core subjects (Mathematics, Integrated Science, and English) and Elective Subjects – Grade C6 or better in three (3) elective subjects in Science or General Arts (Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics), Home Economics and Agricultural Science.
- Applicants within the West African Examination Council zone, with Pure Science background who do not offer Integrated Science, but may wish to apply for BSc Nursing are required to apply with four (4) Elective subjects (this should include the required grades in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, or Elective Mathematics) for the fourth to be replaced as substitute for Integrated Science.
- International Students having equivalent qualifications as stated in (1) or (2) may apply for admission. Foreign Certificates must receive authentication and equivalencies from the Ghana National Accreditation Board. Foreign students must have their high school certificates/diplomas translated into English if they are not written in English. Evidence of proficiency in English language for non-English speaking countries will be needed.
- Diploma/Registered General Nurses/Midwives/Mental Health Nurses and applicants with SRN certificates would also be considered for a three (3) year BSN.
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology BSc Nursing Requirement
WASSCE/SSSCE Holders who have credits (A1-C6/ A-D Respectively) in the following Three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus credits (A1-C6) in Three Elective Subjects with an Aggregate Score of 24 or better in the relevant Area of Study.
OR
GENERAL BUSINESS CERTIFICATE (GBCE) Holders who possess passes in Three compulsory Subjects including English Language and passes in any Three Elective Subjects including Business Mathematics.
ADVANCED LEVEL Holders with credits in at least Five (5) subjects at the GCE ‘O’ Level (or its equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics, plus at least two passes in the relevant subjects at the Advanced Level obtained not more than Three (3) years ago.
Cape Coast University Requirement for BSc Nursing
WASSCE/SSSCE Applicants
Applicants must have passes in all core subjects including, English, Mathematics and Science. In addition, candidates must have obtained good aggregate in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
Diploma Holders
Professionals with Nursing Diploma in addition to University entry requirements may be admitted into level 300 after passing an interview. Candidates must have study leave.
Other Nursing Candidates
Professionals with Nursing Certificate (SRN) with the basic university entry requirements may be admitted into level 200 after passing an interview.
Central University College Requirement for BSc Nursing
- Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE): with an aggregate score of twenty-four (24) or better in six (6) subjects comprising: A – D in all three (3) core subjects i.e. English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and at least passes i.e. (A – D) in three (3) elective subjects in the options of Science, General Arts, Agricultural Science and Home Economics.
- West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE): with an aggregate score of 36 or better in six (6) subjects comprising: A1 – C6 in all three (3) core subjects i.e. English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and at least passes in three (3) elective subjects in the options of Science, General Arts, Agricultural Science and Home Economics.
- Foreign Students Requirements: foreign students must have their result slips translated into English. In addition, applicants must be able to speak and write in English.
All Nations University College Requirement for BSc Nursing
WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS:
The general requirements for admission of WASSCE and SSSCE candidates to first degree programmes are three (3) credit passes in three core subjects and three (3) credit passes in three relevant elective subjects or better.
- SSSCE Candidates: Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects or better.
- WASSCE Candidates: Credit passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects or better.
- An applicant for admission to a degree programme in the University College must have aggregate 24 orbetter, with at least credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, and Integrated Science. Social Studies may be accepted for non-Engineering Programmes, but Integrated Science is preferred plus three (3) elective subjects, or their equivalent relevant to the chosen programme.
- Candidates with aggregates higher than 24 will NOT be admitted for degree programmes. Such applicants may apply to attend the University College’s PreUniversity programme.
Ghana Christian University Requirement for BSc Nursing
- Holders of 5 GCE Level credits plus at least two (2) Levels and a pass in General Paper OR
- Six (6) SSCE/WASSCE passes in three (3) Core Subjects: (English Language, and Mathematics, plus either Integrated Science or Social Studies) and three (3) relevant Electives subjects with not below D (for SSSCE) or C6 (WASSCE) in any of the six.
- DBS Applicants: Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes (including English and Mathematics) not below C6 plus at least three (3) passes in related DBS subjects.
