  • 4-Year BSc Community Nutrition Degree Programme

The Department of Nutritional Sciences (DNS) currently runs a 4-year BSc Community Nutrition Programme. Over the years (since 2000), the Department has trained Community Nutritionists who are employed by Ministry of Health (to serve at the District, Regional and National levels) and NGOs (including international and local). Many other organizations and institutions are engaged by the universities and research institutions.

Since its inception, the Community Nutrition programme has focused on admitting qualified applicants straight from senior high school. However, there are other suitable applicants who already hold Diplomas and are not desirous of doing four years to obtain a degree; such applicants have not been targeted by the Community Nutrition programme for admission. Presently, and on a yearly basis, different calibre of health professional graduates from the Ministry of Health Training Institutes with Diplomas and other related certificates churned out. From interactions between the Department and these health professionals, it is evident that there is a strong desire by these health professionals for the opportunity to study for higher degrees (BSc) and also to improve their professional competences.

There are also qualified mature candidates who are desirous to study at higher levels but could not gain access due to the competitive nature of admissions into the universities.

The Department, therefore, proposes introduction of Top-Up and Mature entry points to provide opportunity for Diploma bearing professionals and mature applicants to upgrade themselves academically and gain professional competences to enhance service delivery.

Thanks for all the information. May I please know if you offer sandwich programs and which months does it start and end?
I did Diploma in Early Childhood Education with UCC and will like to do the degree with your instruction, due to where I am now, but want sandwich. Thanks
