2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E) Kick Off Today – Details Below
The 2020 B.E.C.E was expected to take place in June 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was scheduled to take place in September.

The examination will last for 5 working days starting today 14th September 2020 and ending 18th September 2020.
16,871 schools are presenting students today to sit for the examination with a total number of 531,674 students across the 16 regions of the country.
After six weeks of intensive study, when they return from the COVID-19 break. The candidates have shown their preparedness towards the exams which will start today despite the lack of adequate classroom work due to the pandemic.
Over the years, BECE has been the means of selecting qualified students from the basic level of education to Senior High School (SHS) level in this country, and this year it will of no difference.
They are required to get an excellent or better grade which will give them access to the SHS level of education.
It is expected that, despite the break, students have gone for some months they should be able to write well and make history.
Both the secondary school students and the junior high students are expected to make history this year. Especially on the part of the SHS students, the first batch of Free SHS.
In this time of the pandemic, students are expected to observe the COVID-19 protocols which include washing of hands and sanitizing them, wearing of nose and face masks, social distancing, and many others to ensure that there is no transmission of the virus.
As the exams approached, the head of Ghana National Office of WAEC, Mrs. Wendy E. Addy-Lamptey, said ordinarily, a candidate would not go out of his or her way to look out for ‘Apo’ or external help to pass well in the exams. She said “it is adult who is pushing the little ones to fall into the trap of examination malpractices”
Per the schedule for the exams, two papers will be written each day from 14th September 2020 to Friday 18th September 2020.
Candidates will write English Language and Religious and Moral Education today, and continue with Integrated Science and Basic Design and Technology on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, candidates will sit for Information and Communication Technology with French paper respectively. This will be followed by Mathematics and Ghanaian Language and Culture on Thursday and finally conclude with Social Studies on Friday.

Deputy Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum told the press that the government has made all the necessary arrangements to ensure the smooth running of the examination. “We pray for God’s guidance for them”.
The government has done everything possible to put them in a place where they will safely take the exams and come out with flying colors. I wish them the best of luck.” He said.
