What is the scheme of learning?

A scheme of learning, also known as a scheme of work, is a long-term plan for what teachers will teach and how they will teach it over a period of time, such as a term or a year. It is a high-level overview of the learning objectives, topics, and activities that will be covered.

What is a scheme in teaching?

A scheme in teaching is a document that outlines the learning objectives, topics, and activities that will be covered in a particular subject area over a period of time. It is a roadmap for teachers to follow to ensure that their students are progressing and meeting the learning objectives.

How do you prepare a scheme of learning?

To prepare a scheme of learning, teachers should first consider the following:

  • The national curriculum or other relevant curriculum documents
  • The needs and interests of their students
  • The resources available to them

Once teachers have considered these factors, they can begin to plan the scheme of learning. This should include the following:

  • Identifying the learning objectives for the period of time being covered
  • Choosing the topics that will be covered
  • Selecting the activities that will be used to help students achieve the learning objectives

The scheme of learning should be flexible so that teachers can adjust it as needed. It is also important to involve students in the planning process so that they have a better understanding of what they are learning and why.

What is the difference between a scheme of work and a lesson plan?

A scheme of work is a long-term plan for what teachers will teach and how they will teach it over a period of time, such as a term or a year. A lesson plan is a short-term plan for what teachers will teach and how they will teach it in a single lesson.

A scheme of work provides a framework for lesson planning. It helps teachers to ensure that their lessons are aligned with the learning objectives and that they are covering all of the necessary topics.

Lesson plans are more detailed than schemes of work. They typically include the following:

  • The learning objectives for the lesson
  • The activities that will be used to help students achieve the learning objectives
  • The resources that will be used
  • The assessment methods that will be used

Lesson plans help teachers to stay organized and on track during their lessons. They also help to ensure that all students are learning the same material.

Here is a table that summarizes the key differences between a scheme of work and a lesson plan:

Feature Scheme of work Lesson plan
Length of time covered Term or year Single lesson
Level of detail High-level overview Detailed
Purpose Provides a framework for lesson planning Ensures that lessons are aligned with the learning objectives and that all necessary topics are covered
