WHAT IS A COVER LETTER?

A cover letter is an important way to showcase how your unique combination of skills and experience meets the key requirements of the job description.

It is your chance to show a clear link between your knowledge, experience, and abilities an employer needs.

Before you write a cover letter, you need to know its vital features. Below are the features of the cover letter:

  1. Header
  2. Greeting
  3. Introduction
  4. Qualifications
  5. Values and Goals
  6. Call to action Signature

When you are looking for a job and it happens that, you have attached a cover letter to your application. You will get attention from the one you have applied for the job. The reason is that, in the letter, you have stated your values and goals, qualifications, and other things.

Personality is so important in a job application to the extent that some positions require personality testing. The person reading the cover letter will want to meet you because you communicate effectively and have something to share. The cover letter is your selling agent, presenting you in your best form and format. A cover letter gives you an opportunity to describe your talents in complete sentences.

The cover letter gives you a chance to explain further your contribution. Thus- what you will do for the company when you get the chance to work with it.

WHAT IS A CV?

A curriculum vitae is a selling document that gives a summary of a job seeker’s career history, and academic qualifications and also explains their future potential. The ‘curriculum vitae is Latin for ‘the story of your life. It is also occasionally known as a resume, although this term is more commonly used in America.

Let us look at the features of a Curriculum Vitae (CV): Your CV should contain the following sections.

  1. Personal summary / Career objective
  2. Career history
  3. Academic qualifications
  4. References Areas of expertise

Now the importance of CV as we did for Cover Letter.

  1. Helping you prepare for your interview by identifying potential talking points and questions your interviewers might ask based on what you’ve written down in your CV.
  2. Reminding you of what you have done in your career.
  3. Helping you to identify any weakness in your skills, work experience, or qualifications.
  4. Allowing you to reflect on your career to date, for instance, to see if you have achieved any targets you previously set yourself.
  5. Refreshing your mind before a job interview.
  6. Setting the agenda for any future interviews.

CV and Cover Letter are different when we look at their features and importance.
