The Ghana Education Service (GES) Announces to the general public particularly parents, teachers, and pupils/students of Public KG-Primary/JHS and Second Cycle schools that reopening of schools as approved by the Hon. Minister for Education upon the recommendation of the Ministerial Committee on School s Calendar is as follows:

SHS 3: Monday, 9th January 2023

SHS 2: Monday, 9th January 2023

SHS 1: Sunday, 20th February 2023

Basic Schools Reopening Dates

JHS 1-3: Tuesday, 10th January 2023

Primary 1-6: Tuesday, 10th January 2023

KG 1-2: Tuesday, 10th January 2023

Second Cycle Schools Vacation Dates

SHS 3: 5th April 2023

SHS 2: 18th February 2023

SHS 1: 13th April 2023

Basic Schools Vacation Dates

JHS 1-3: 6th April 2023 to 18th April 2023

Primary 1-6: 6th April 2023 to 18th April 2023

KG 1-2: 6th April 2023 to 18th April 2023

Note:

Due to the start of the calendar in January 2023, SHS 3 cannot enjoy a prolonged break. This is to allow SHS 1 and SHS 2 to be in school as well.
This means that the calendar will have to be fine-tuned so that SHS 3 students can attend class continuously from January 2023 through the end of September 2023, when the WASSCE ends.
In the transitional option, two (2) of the three (3) year groups must be in school at a given time.
In addition, the Colleges of Education have received an increase in their schools’ enrolment as a result of the Free Senior High School programme which required short-term solutions.
Finally, the 2023 calendar ensures that teachers get a break.
