The BECE results are calculated using the 6 best subjects from your results. These include the four core subjects (Maths, English, Inter-Science, and Social Studies) together with the best two electives subjects.

See below the sample results obtained by a 2024 BECE candidate and how to calculate the aggregate score.

Eg. Assuming a student has the below results in his or her BECE exams;

ENGLISH LANGUAGE 1 HIGHEST
SOCIAL STUDIES 2 HIGHER
REL.& MORAL EDUC. 3 HIGH
MATHEMATICS 1 HIGHEST
INTEGRATED SCIENCE 2 HIGHER
INFO. & COMM.TECH. 1 HIGHEST
FRENCH 2 HIGHER
B.D.T./HOME ECONS. 2 HIGHER

Here, to obtain your grade, you will take the first best core ( English, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Integrated Science) => 1+2+1+2 = 6.

Now Look through your results and get the 2 best elective subjects ( Info. & Comm. Tech, B.D.T,) => 1+2 = 3.

(English + Mathematics + Integrated Science + Social Studies) + ( Info. & Comm. Tech + B.D.T)

=> 1 + 2 +1 + 2+1+2 = 9.

In this case, the candidate has obtained an aggregate 9 score in the above results.

The better your BECE grade the greater your chances of getting placed into the school of your choice. The GES uses the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) to place students into different schools across the country.
