Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology
The University of Science and Technology succeeded the Kumasi College of Technology which was established by a Government Ordinance on 6th October 1951. It was, however, opened officially on 22nd January 1952 with 200 Teacher Training students transferred from Achimota, to form the nucleus of the new College.

The University started awarding its degrees in June 1964. All degree examinations are reviewed by external examiners and moderators to ensure that high academic standards are maintained.

Our Strategic Mandate
The Act establishing the University defines its mandate, which essentially is to provide higher education, undertake research, disseminate knowledge and foster relationships with the outside persons and bodies. The strategic mandate of the University is derived from Science and Technology in its name.

To build on KNUST’s leadership as the premier science and technology university in Ghana and to be among the top ten Universities in Africa.
Mission Statement
KNUST exists to advance knowledge in science and technology through creating an environment for undertaking relevant research, quality teaching, entrepreneurship training and community engagement to improve the quality of life.
Core Values
KNUST is committed to attracting and developing excellent staff and students in order to contribute towards the achievement of the goals, targets and directions that the government has set for higher education. The following cherished values characterize the work and life of the University and are ingrained in all those who pass through the University.

Colleges At KNUST
KNUST is now fundamentally structured into six Colleges. These Colleges are composed of Faculties. These Faculties are subdivided into Departments. New and existing Departments and programmes fall under these Colleges. The Departments coordinate and collaborate where necessary. They are;
- College Of Agriculture And Natural Resources
- College Of Humanities And Social Sciences
- College Of Engineering
- College Of Art And Built Environment
- College Of Science
- College Of Health Sciences
Admission Requirements (Undergraduate)
Minimum/General Entry Requirements: It is worth noting that the THREE CORE SBJECTS are prerequisite for all Programmes of study at our University.
- An applicant for admission to a degree Programme in the University must have CREDITS in the THREE WASSCE/SSSCE Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science), and CREDITS in THREE WASSCE/SSSCE Elective Subjects or it’s equivalent relevant to the chosen Programme with aggregate 24 or better.
- Applicants must have passes in THREE Compulsory Subjects including English Language and passes in THREE Elective Subjects including Business Mathematics.
- Applicants must have FIVE credits at the GCE/IGCSE O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics (or its approved equivalent), plus passes in at least THREE (3) subjects at the Advanced Level/Three Credits in the case of mature applicants. In addition, the applicant must fulfill the appropriate Faculty or Departmental requirements.
- Applicants must have passes in THREE Compulsory Subjects plus THREE (3) Optional Subjects relevant to the Programme of study
