The Youth Employment Agency began as National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) to address the ever-increasing problem of unemployment among the youth, perceived to be a potential threat to National Security in 2005.

It was officially inaugurated in October 2006 and functioned under the Office of the President without legal backing.

The YEA was established under the Youth Employment Act 2015 (Act 887), to oversee the development, coordination, supervision, and facilitation of employment for the youth and related matters in Ghana.

Modules run by the Youth Employment Agency

One of the mandates of the Youth Employment Agency is to create jobs for the youth through program modules. See below the full modules under the yea.

Youth in Community Service and Security

This module offers employment opportunities for the youth by augmenting the human resource capacity of Ghana’s security services within beneficiaries cited communities.

Youth in Community and Health Assistants

The module seeks to create employment opportunities for the youth by adding up to the staff strength of the Ghana Health Service while assisting in basic health care delivery to hard-to-reach communities.

Youth in Sports

The module seeks to train the youth in various sports development management.

Youth in Entrepreneurship

The objective of this module is to equip the youth with entrepreneurial skills in order to create a new crop of small business owners who will intend to offer employment opportunities to others.

Youth in Paid Internship

The objective of this module is to offer employment opportunities for graduates to gain hands-on experience to boost their employability.

Youth in Agriculture and Afforestation

This module seeks to create employment opportunities for the youth through agriculture and its related businesses while empowering them to begin their own farms and also get involved in the very profitable Agricultural Value Chain.

Youth in Sanitation and Coastal Assistants

This module creates employment opportunities for the youth through the maintenance of environmental cleanliness with special emphasis on beaches and coastal areas.

Community Teaching Assistants

Youth in Apparel and Textiles

The rationale of this module is to train the youth in the art of textile and garment making to make them employable in the fashion industry.

Industrial Attachment

The objective of this module is to offer employment opportunities for graduates to gain hands-on experience to boost their employability.

Youth in Information Communication Technology

The rationale behind this module is to target and equip the youth with information technology skills set to make them employable for the labour market.
