The Nation-Builder’s corps programme created to enhance the dignity and self-esteem of graduates, and also present them with the added benefit of efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of some essential public services is scheduled to end by 1st September 2022.

This was made known by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta during his presentation of the mid-year budget review in Parliament on Monday, July 25.

“Mr. Speaker, our iconic National Builder’s Corps (NaBCo) programme, which was initially to run for three years and extended for an additional year, will be completed by 1st September 2022. The Programme- which engaged 100,000 young graduates, has prepared thousands of them for the world of work. So far we have invested approximately GH¢2.2 billion,” he said.

The minister, therefore, encourages the current batch of trainees to take advantage of the yet-to-be-launched YouStart initiatives and other existing programmes to help build their entrepreneurship skills.

“As they exit, the current cohort on the programme are encouraged to take advantage of the YouStart initiative and other existing programmes in our drive to Build an Entrepreneurial Nation,” he added.

The integration of the NABCo personnel into the programme would help to strengthen it while addressing the issues of allowances that have long bedeviled that programme.

Meanwhile, sources said that efforts are being put in place to clear the outstanding arrears owed the thousands of Trainees engaged under the programme in the coming months, as part of efforts to ease the burden on the youth.
