The trainees were promised relief when Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia pledged to settle the nine-month arrears. Nevertheless, weeks have gone by with no real progress, leaving the trainees dissatisfied and angry.

On June 24, 2024, the trainees wrote a letter expressing their displeasure and casting doubt on the truthfulness of the Vice President’s promises.

In response to their grievances, the Finance Ministry made it clear to the trainees that:

“The Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) was under the Office of the President, and therefore any outstanding payments on the programme will have to be validated and submitted to the Ministry of Finance by the Office of the President.”

Trainees were further advised to route their petition through the Office of the President for onward submission with the requisite supporting documents to the Ministry of Finance.

To further address this issue, the spokesperson for the NABCO trainees, Eric Nana Tachie, said in a TV interview that they’re going to organize a mega demonstration.

After the demonstration, they’ll seek legal redress for the matter because the letter released by the finance minister shows that the vice president of the land (DR. Mahamadu Bawumia), after promising solemnly to engage the finance ministry to release funds to pay NABCO beneficiaries, has not made any attempt to collaborate with them for the funds released. And that’s why the Ministry of Finance is directing them back to the presidency.

According to Techie, the vice president only promised to calm the trainees down since he knew very well that he would not make any effort to pay them.

The urgency of the trainees’ financial condition and the necessity for a just resolution are highlighted by their need for prompt action, and a fair and sustainable future depends on the government’s reaction to the trainees’ grievances.
