Reopening and Vacation Dates For Senior High Schools

Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has adjusted the academic calendar and dates for Senior high schools (SHS) for the 2023/2024 Academic year and wishes to inform all Heads of Schools to take note and to communicate same staff, students and parents.
Below are the reopening and vacation dates for the various cohorts of students.
2023-2024 Academic Calendar for Single Track SHS:
- The first semester for SHS 1 students starts on December 4th, 2023, and ends on March 15th, 2024.
- The first semester for SHS 2 students starts on November 21st, 2023, and ends on March 5th, 2024.
- The first semester for SHS 3 students starts on November 1st, 2023, and ends on March 5th, 2024.
- The second semester for all single-track SHS students starts on May 3rd, 2024, and ends on August 28th, 2024.
- There is a 6-week break between the first and second semesters for all single-track SHS students.
2023-2024 Academic Calendar for Double Track SHS:
- The first semester for SHS 1 students on the green track starts on December 4th, 2023, and ends on March 5th, 2024.
- The first semester for SHS 1 students on the gold track starts on January 2nd, 2024, and ends on March 28th, 2024.
- The first semester for SHS 2 students on the green track starts on March 8th, 2024, and ends on May 9th, 2024.
- The first semester for SHS 2 students on the gold track starts on April 17th, 2024, and ends on August 23rd, 2024.
- The first semester for SHS 3 students on the green track starts on November 1st, 2023, and ends on March 5th, 2024.
- The first semester for SHS 3 students on the gold track starts on December 4th, 2023, and ends on March 28th, 2024.
- The second semester for all double-track SHS students starts on May 13th, 2024, and ends on July 9th, 2024, for green track students and on August 23rd, 2024, for gold track students.
- There is a 6-week break between the first and second semesters for all double-track SHS students.
Please note that these dates are subject to change by the Ghana Education Service.
