The management of Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the academic calendar for the 2024/2025 academic year for all basic and senior high schools. Below is a summary of the key points from the academic calender:
- All Senior High Schools: The academic year will commence on Wednesday, 30th October 2024.
- First-Year Students (Transitional Calendar Schools): First-year students currently in Transitional Calendar Schools will complete their 2023/2024 academic year on Monday, 28th October 2024 and will immediately be promoted to Form Two to begin the new academic year.
- Incoming First-Year Students: For students entering their first year in both Single Track and Transitional Schools, classes will begin on Wednesday, 30th October 2024.

- Students in Single Track Schools will reopen for the new academic year on Wednesday, 30th October 2024.
Purpose of Reopening Date:
- The objective is to ensure that the school calendar starts in September next year, aligning with future academic cycles.
- This date also prepares final-year students for their 2025/2026 WASSCE, which will be conducted in May/June 2026.
The announcement of the new academic calendar is expected to pave the way for the release of 2024 Senior High School placements.
