Will NABCO Trainees Be Permanently Employed? See Details Below

The NABCO programme has been up and running for the past three years. The programme no doubt came to help most trainees solve their temporal unemployment problems. Even though there have been some challenges with the programme, it has helped a lot of these trainees have some meaningful income to help in their up keeping.

The NABCO Programme according to the trainee’s letter of engagement was expected to last for 3 good years. This means, trainees after working for three years with NABCO, will be laid down and then go to look for their own job with the three years of experience gained. But along the line, the management of NABCO introduced the three exit pathways which include (permanent Jobs, Further learning, and entrepreneurship).

In November last year (2020), a portal was created for these trainees to login and register for their preferred exit plans. Most trainees obviously choose a permanent job.

After successful completion of the registration on the portal, trainees were later given a message informing them of their registration status. The content of this message then turns to bring some doubt on the minds of trainees as to whether they will actually maintain it or not.

Ever since the message was sent to trainees, most trainees lost hope from the permanency of the programme because according to them after analyzing the message, they realized that, their contact can only be extended but not permanently employed.

Recently, we came across a lot of views from the cross-section of trainees regarding the permanency of the trainees on the NABCO programme. These trainees seem to have some tangible points o support their claims.

Some are of the view that the permanency will not materialize whiles others also seem to have lost hope in the NABCO programme entirely.

“Please to my colleague’s trainees never dream that they are going make us permanent, those who were part of YEA underplanting for food and job in 2017 will understand what I’m saying. Note I’m not discouraging anyone but the truth and so if you have someone who will help you get a permanent job start working on that because it’s clearly showing that things are getting out of hands.
People, if indeed they want to employ us permanently it will have been shown in the massive GES recruitment and my advice is that let’s not rely on them so much but it should come as a surprise to us. From experience in YEA in 2017, our leaders were misleading us and not knowing they were given an appointment and they keep on telling us they going give appointment and finally, they brought NABCO hummmmm by now our leaders are working to get themselves out so Wake up, wake up I said wake up”

“This is to all NABCO trainees and that is- when you were filling your NABCO form almost three years ago was there anything like NABCO will look for a permanent job for trainees?? No!! So why are trainees now basically thinking of a permanent job from NABCO Authority??? Basically, the NABCO program is just an extension of the National Service (NSS). In other words, NABCO is just a presidential or political initiative roll out by the president to help graduates gain employable skills and not anything like a permanent job for trainees, and this must be very well understood by NABCO trainees!!!!!! This means after gaining the employable skills trainees can voluntarily exit from the NABCO program when they secure a permanent job of their own choice!!!! Thanks for your attention.”

“NABCO program laid more emphasis on free exit. Voluntary Exit. So nothing like permanent Employment. Trainees with trained skills are to go out to look for their own employment of their choice and Exit from the NABCO program!!! Basically, if you allow politicians to deceive you then it is your problem oooo. Take Note: Who deceived or misled someone is not the problem but instead Who allowed himself to be deceived is the problem!!!!”

Our View on the Above

According to a report sighted some months back, trainees were made to know that, not all NABCO trainees will be a transition into the permanent job, further learning, or entrepreneurship. NABCO made it clear that only 50% of these trainees will be transitioned.

Even though trainees have divergent views when it comes to the permanency of the NABCO programme, ‘we’ acting on the earlier report, can say that some trainees will surely be employed permanently.

Since the programme will be coming to end in October 2021, all that trainees are supposed to do is to wait for the said date to elapse. Meanwhile, we also encourage trainees to keep on looking for other alternatives should incase the otherwise happens. Stay tuned for further updates.
